Anytime is a great time to plant Vermipods!

Vermipods! What are they? Encapsulated Earthworm Cocoons™. Earthworms are the greatest living natural soil boosters and now there is a simple way to get them back in the ground where they belong. Perfect for your flowers, garden, or your farm no matter the size or crop.

Gardeners covet earthworms' presence in their plots because: Their castings boost nitrogen in the soil. They move deep-soil nutrients closer to plant roots. Their tunnels loosen soil, improving aeration. Their activities help soil particles bond, balancing moisture retention and drainage.

Earthworms perform this same magic in compost, speeding the development of nutrient-dense, moisture-dispersing humus. In sufficient numbers, earthworms will rejuvenate depleted soil. They will shift soil pH closer to neutral and even control harmful nematodes. With their aid, sandy soil will drain more slowly, clay-type earth will drain more quickly, and the availability of nutrients will improve.

VermiPods™ are a specially selected mixture of earthworm cocoons. Different species of earthworms do distinct things to the soil. Some will burrow horizontally, while others will burrow vertically. The Lumbricus terrestris has been known to burrow down to a depth of twelve feet or more.

Minimum planting recommendation:

  • Agricultural-300 Vermipods per acre
  • Horticultural- 1 Vermipod per square foot
  • Floricultural-4 Vermipods per plant

Remember, these are minimum recommendations. The more Vermipods that you plant the faster your soil and plants will become healthy again.

The different species of earthworm cocoons that are currently being made into VermiPods™ are:

Aporrectodea caliginosa (Common Pasture Earthworm) Often found in agricultural soils.

Dendrobaena veneta (European Night Crawler) Also known as Eisenia hortensis. This species performs best in excessively wet environments.

Eisenia andrei (Red Tiger Worm) Often mistaken for the Eisenia fetida. Its growth and reproduction rates make it best suited for vermicomposting.

Eisenia fetida (Manure Worm, Red Wiggler, or Tiger Worm) Used where animal waste is dominate.

Lumbricus terrestris (Dew-worm, Night crawler and Angleworm) By its burrowing actions, this earthworm is of great value in keeping the soil structure open, creating a multitude of channels which allow the processes of both aeration and drainage to occur.

Lumbricus rubellus (Red Marsh Worm) Commonly found in places rich in organic matter and moisture such as gardens and agricultural soils.
